Safety and Chemical Engineering Education (SAChE) is a certificate program offered by AIChE and CCPS jointly. SAChE is a three-level program and is mainly addressed to chemical engineering students at university level. Moreover, this certificate program presents Process Safety as an important issue in chemical engineering. In addition, the main purpose of this program is to teach students Process Safety best practices in order to avoid catastrophic consequences when engaging in real-life experiments. Furthermore, SAChE is based on interactive learning that makes process safety easier to learn.

Accrediting Institute: The American Institute of Chemical Engineering (AIChE)
The American Institute of Chemical Engineering (AIChE) is a premier organization for chemical engineers. AIChE was formed in 1908 and now has over 60.000 members around the world. In addition, AIChE is a trusted resource and expertise in core process industries. Moreover, its main purpose is to promote and provide chemical engineering processes and methods to students, universities, and organizations.
SAChE Requirements
In order to register for the SAChE program, you need to be an undergraduate chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering or chemistry student.
SAChE Study Materials
You will receive the study materials once you successfully register for the program.
Registration Process
You can register online through AIChE’s website.
Program Details
SAChE certificate program consists of 3 levels, each level tackles certain topics but in different amount of details.
Level 1 (Basic): students in their sophomore year are eligible for this level. Also, in level 1, you will mainly study four courses as the following with an overall duration of 8 hours:
- Introduction to Process Safety
- Hazard Recognition
- Identifying & Minimizing Process Safety Hazards
- An Introduction to Managing Process Safety Hazards.
Level 2 (Intermediate): students entering their senior year are eligible for this level as the courses will focus on the risks you may encounter within your work with an overall duration of 35 hours. Examples of the topics you will study are:
- Toxicological Hazards
- Chemical Reactivity Hazards
- Fire Hazards
- Understanding Hazards and risks
- Hazards and risks: what can go wrong?
Level 3 (Advanced): senior students who are about to graduate are eligible for this level. As in this level, you will mainly study more of level 2 topics; however, with more in-depth details. In addition, this level covers four different categories of courses as follows:
- Qualitative Methods and Hazard Assessment
- Safe Design and Operation & Equipment Hazards
- Material Hazards
- Management
Mode of Study: online
Certificate: you will receive the certificate upon your completion of all the courses required in the three levels.
