In Order to have this certification, you need to meet the requirements set by API and pass the formal exams at an authorized API examination center.

API 580 Risk-Based Inspection Requirements
According to API Institute website, you are automatically qualified to take the API 580 Risk-Based Inspection certification exam if you hold ONE of the following certifications:
- API 510-Pressure Vessel Inspector
- API 570-Piping Inspector
- API 653-Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector
If you do not hold one of the above certifications then you should meet ONE of the following to be eligible to take the exam:
